Gwaith-Y-Mwynau Mine

Gwaith-Y-Mwynau Mine is near Maen Serth Standing Stone, Elan Valley. The Mine is said to go back to 1640 and was owned by Sir Hugh Middleton, who in 1609 began the construction of a 61 km canal to gravity feed fresh water into the city of London, the New River, which he completed in 1613. The mine provided silver to finance the Royalist war effort of King Charles I with the ore being sent to the mint at Aberystwyth. There are two other mine Adits recently found a short distance from the Gwaith-y-Mwynau Mine. Lots of mine trialing mines around the area to. On the North side of the hill there are other mines above Cwm Bach Farm, Cwm Bach Mine

Esgair Dderw Mine Adits

Two mine adits not far from Gwaith Y Mwynau Mine. Very dangerous position, I don't recommend visitng these adits. bats use these mines to hibernate during the winter months so please keep away during the winter.
